An employer has selected you and sent a contract. That is an important step, but “all that remains is the ticket” may be premature. The job's authenticity, your qualification, the immigration route and the start date need separate checks. Success in one area does not automatically resolve the other three.

This four-part framework helps applicants planning to move from Uzbekistan to Germany for work. It is not an individual visa assessment. Check applicable requirements against current official guidance, actual job duties and personal documents. Neither an employer nor an adviser can guarantee the authority's decision in advance.

First check: the job offer itself

Establish the legal employer's name, workplace, duties, gross pay and weekly hours. An agency advert is not the same as a written offer from the future employer. Know who will employ you and who is only an intermediary.

Look at duties, not just the title. Calling a support role “specialist” does not automatically make it qualified employment. The official work-visa page for qualified professionals lists the required qualification and an offer of qualified employment as separate conditions. Ordinary auxiliary duties are insufficient for this route.

Does the employer know you are coming from abroad? Does the contract contain conditions to be met before starting? If immediate work is requested, clarify permission first. “We will sort the documents later” does not itself create a legal right to work.

Second check: which qualification evidence is needed?

Holding a diploma, comparability to a German qualification, professional recognition and a licence to practise are different matters. Information about a university is not the assessment of a specific degree. The required evidence depends on your route and occupation.

Write down three questions: what type of education do I have, is the occupation regulated, and what evidence does the authority require? Resolve these instead of copying a checklist for another profession. An employer liking your diploma does not replace formal recognition.

Describe document status precisely. Does “ready” mean translated, submitted or decided? Keep confirmation and reference numbers once a process starts. Claiming an unsubmitted application is underway undermines later planning.

Third check: the appropriate immigration route

“Work visa” is a broad everyday term, but different legal routes have different conditions. Start with the job and your documents, not a popular label. Failing one route does not rule out all others, but neither can an alternative be assumed or guaranteed.

For example, the EU Blue Card is a distinct residence title under section 18g, with qualification, job and income requirements. It is not issued automatically to everyone with a degree or paid contract. Check current thresholds and exceptions on the official page at the time of application.

Professional drivers have a special route. Licence category, professional qualification and immigration requirements are connected but do not replace one another. A job offer does not mean all driving-related documents are ready.

Start dateCorrespondence with the employerHow is a delay documented?

Record the date and source of each item of evidence. “The agent said so” and an official document belong in different categories. Advice may help, but know which requirement and document support it. Turn each unknown into a next action.

Fourth check: start date and costs

The employer's preferred date may not match document readiness. Be transparent. Briefly explain in writing what is pending, what you have done and which timing remains unknown. Do not turn an official processing estimate into your own promise.

Ask whether the start can be postponed and how the new date will be documented. If housing, a course or travel has separate terms, check how a delay affects them. Updating one document does not automatically change other bookings or payments.

Be cautious about non-refundable tickets, housing payments and leaving your current job while permissions remain uncertain. Separate costs into refundable, non-refundable and not yet necessary. This does not eliminate risk, but clarifies the consequences of rushing.

An illustrative case: contract ready, assessment pending

Suppose an applicant has a written technical job offer but lacks the qualification evidence required for the selected route. The employer wants them to start next month. This is not a real client story or the outcome of a particular application.

The applicant first rechecks the duties and required evidence. If an assessment application has genuinely been submitted, they report its status; otherwise they explain that preparation is still underway. They ask to coordinate the start date and retain the reply.

It is a mistake to travel on “I have a diploma, I will sort the rest later” or to claim a decision exists when it does not. The right next step is not always immediate travel: it may be completing documents, changing the date or reassessing the offer.

A short German clarification for the employer

Guten Tag,

Frequently asked questions

Does an employment contract guarantee a visa?

No. It can be important evidence, but does not replace other requirements or the official decision. Do not rely on “everyone with a contract gets approved”.

Does a diploma let me take any job?

That general conclusion is incorrect. The job type, qualification evidence and selected immigration basis must be checked. Regulated professions also require separate consideration of professional authorisation.

What should I check if an agency handles the process?

Know what information was sent, whether it is accurate, your document copies, application status and employment terms. Authorising an agent does not make false information correct. Do not assume you can start without seeing evidence of the decision and permission.

Where can I find an overview of the process?

Alman Visum's guide to moving for work helps organise the stages. When you request individual advice, prepare your job offer, qualification documents and open questions. Advice is not a promise of official approval.
