Healthcare careers in Germany
Healthcare careers in Germany
Germany needs qualified healthcare staff, including doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists and other specialists. Employment prospects depend on recognition of your qualification, language skills, professional authorisation and a specific employer’s offer.
Professional fields
Doctors (internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, anaesthesiology and other specialties)
Nurses and nursing assistants
Paramedics and midwives: the corresponding German profession must be assessed separately
Pharmacists, medical laboratory staff and radiography professionals
Physiotherapists and rehabilitation specialists
Working conditions and pay
Assess a healthcare salary using the specific written offer stating gross pay, working hours and supplements.
For an entry-level role, check the base rate; with previous experience, check the pay grade; for a role with more responsibility, check the pay for additional duties.
A doctor’s salary depends on the collective agreement, role and experience, so the amount must be confirmed in writing in the offer or contract; a general website figure is not a guarantee.
Education and qualification requirements
Relevant healthcare education (a qualification and evidence of training content for the chosen profession).
Recognition of qualifications is handled by the competent state authority. A ZAB assessment does not replace a doctor’s professional licence.
Possible professional examinations:
Fachsprachenprüfung — specialist German language examination
Kenntnisprüfung for doctors, where the authority requires a medical knowledge examination
Authorisation to practise medicine Approbation or a limited temporary Berufserlaubnis where the relevant conditions are met.
German language requirements
For doctors, general German is normally at least B2; the medical language examination normally corresponds to C1 . Confirm the exact rules with the authority in your chosen state.
Other healthcare professions may have different requirements; the range B2–C1 must not be treated as a universal rule for every role.
Visa and work authorisation
EU Blue Card: the standard annual gross salary threshold in 2026 is €50,700 ; certain categories may qualify at €45,934.20 with Federal Employment Agency approval. Salary alone is insufficient: other conditions also apply.
National category D visa: the appropriate route depends on your contract, qualifications, professional authorisation and circumstances. The competent authority makes the decision, not an intermediary.

Prepare documents and seek recognition (qualification, training records and language certificates).
Interview and any required practical assessments.
Apply for the relevant work visa under the current procedure of the responsible German mission.
Move, register your address and complete necessary preparation before starting the authorised employment.
Practical advice
Start learning German well in advance, for example 6–12 months before your intended move; preparation time depends on your starting level.
When preparing documents, you can seek advisory support , including from Alman Visum. Agree the service scope and fees in advance.
To train for a nursing profession, consider Berufsausbildung — vocational training combining theory and practice.
Between federal states, pay and administrative requirements may differ; check the conditions for your chosen position.
Careful preparation helps prevent gaps in your documents. Recognition, a visa and employment nevertheless involve separate decisions; the outcome cannot be guaranteed in advance.
Training at a Finanzamt: check eligibility first
If you are interested in finance, tax and law, explore programmes at a Finanzamt — a tax office . This is a civil-service route with specific eligibility rules. NRW, for example, requires EU citizenship or citizenship of a state covered by an applicable agreement for Finanzwirt training. Uzbek citizenship alone does not establish eligibility: clarify your case with the authority before paying for preparation.
What should you check?
- Training format: Finanzwirt vocational training in NRW lasts two years. It differs from the separate three-year dual degree. Duration and conditions depend on the programme and state.
- Prospects after graduation: successful completion may lead to continued public service; the authority determines appointment procedures and conditions.
- Programme content: tax law, bookkeeping, administrative procedures and tax documentation.
- Professional German: learning and workplace communication require understanding complex texts and writing accurately.
Requirements
- Education: Finanzwirt training in NRW requires Fachoberschulreife or an equivalent school qualification. A dual degree has different requirements. Foreign school certificates need separate assessment.
- German language: B1 must not be assumed universally sufficient. Check language expectations and selection procedures directly with the authority; legal texts require confident language skills.
- Interest in finance and law: working with tax rules, figures and enquiries from the public.
- Responsibility and accuracy: careful handling of tax documents and legal procedures.
Programme conditions
- Practical training: takes place at the relevant tax office and may include returns, checks and public enquiries under supervision.
- Pay during training: payments and status are determined by state rules and the specific offer. Obtain written confirmation.
- Learning environment: check teaching locations, tutor support, learning materials and accommodation arrangements.
- Further career options: options depend on your qualification and admission rules. Training at a tax office does not automatically authorise work as a Steuerberater or auditor.
Contact us for an initial eligibility check if this field interests you. First confirm whether the programme is open to someone with your citizenship and education, then discuss documents and preparation. This page does not represent a guaranteed training place at a Finanzamt.
Alman Visum helps you understand requirements and prepare documents. The scope, fees and responsibilities are agreed before work begins.
Truck driving in Germany: preparation and conditions
Freight transport is an important part of German logistics. Experienced drivers may find suitable domestic or international roles. Before applying, check the employer, pay, schedule, driving licence and professional qualification. This overview is not a specific confirmed job offer.
What should you check in an offer?
- Pay: Confirm gross base pay, working hours, supplements and travel allowances in writing. Do not count variable payments as guaranteed salary; conditions depend on the employer and route.
- Lawful employment: We help prepare visa and residence documents. The competent authority issues permits; visa approval cannot be guaranteed.
- Vehicles: Ask the employer about vehicle type, equipment and maintenance arrangements.
- Accommodation and practical support: Check whether accommodation is offered, its cost and rest arrangements. Do not assume free accommodation without written confirmation.
- Schedule: Agree working, driving and rest times, days off and overtime recording.
- Additional training: Check safety, transport rules and equipment training, including who pays for required courses.
Requirements
- The appropriate driving licence, such as category CE: The work requires the appropriate valid EU/EEA licence. Conversion of a foreign licence and any required examinations must be checked separately.
- Professional driver qualification: The relevant recognised qualification is required. A qualification route may be available under specific conditions; professional driving is not permitted before the necessary qualification is completed.
- Experience: An employer may require experience, such as 1–2 years in long-distance transport. This is a vacancy-specific condition, not a universal visa rule.
- Knowledge of transport rules: Understanding traffic, safety and freight rules in Germany and the countries on your route.
- German for work: Language matters for instructions, safety and communication. Ask the employer about the required level; B1 is not a universal requirement of the special immigration route for drivers.
- Document checklist: Use the current checklist from the responsible mission and employer. Do not assume a military service document is a universal work-visa requirement.
Programme conditions
- Cargo: Depending on the role: containers, industrial goods, agricultural products or other cargo.
- Routes: Domestic German or international transport; countries and trip lengths should be agreed in advance.
- Rest: Conditions must follow applicable working, driving and rest-time rules. Ask how these are recorded and observed.
- Maintenance: Ask about regular vehicle checks, fault reporting and breakdown procedures.

Agricultural work in Germany: opportunities and restrictions
Agriculture offers different seasonal and permanent roles. A job offer does not automatically grant a right of entry. Applicants from Uzbekistan must first establish a lawful employment route; the BA seasonal-worker programme for Georgia and Moldova does not automatically extend to other nationalities.
Types of agricultural work
Harvesting fruit and vegetables
- Harvesting apples, strawberries, cherries, grapes and other crops.
- Planting and harvesting tomatoes, cucumbers and other vegetables.
Farm work
- Assisting with dairy farming.
- Animal care and feeding.
- Preparing feed and cleaning livestock facilities.
Produce processing
- Sorting, cleaning and packing plant products.
- Logistics and warehouse tasks.
Working conditions
Working hours
- Hours, days off and overtime must be stated in the contract and comply with the law. Seasonal work does not remove requirements for rest and pay.
Pay
- Since 1 January 2026, the general statutory minimum is €13.90 gross per hour for workers covered by the Minimum Wage Act. Check applicable exceptions, any higher sector rate, hours and deductions; the former €12–14 guide is unsuitable for assessing a 2026 offer.
Accommodation and meals
- Some employers offer accommodation. Before accepting, confirm the address, occupancy, rent, deposit and meal deductions in writing. Do not assume these services are free.
Seasonality
- The season depends on the crop, weather and farm. Check contract dates and what happens if the workload decreases.
Requirements
Physical requirements
- Check lifting, standing, outdoor work and other physical demands. A universal “18–50” age range for the whole sector is incorrect; rules depend on the role and lawful employment route.
Language requirements
- The tasks and employer determine the language level. Even where requirements are modest, you must understand instructions and safety rules; B1 is not a universal entry requirement.
Documents
- The appropriate visa or work authorisation, depending on citizenship and the employment route.
- Passport and other documents on the official checklist.
- If medical evidence is required, clarify its type, legal basis and how to obtain it.
Work experience
- Agricultural experience can be an advantage. Whether it is required depends on the job and the chosen immigration route.
Our support:
- Visa-document preparation: we help prepare documents after identifying a suitable lawful route. The visa decision remains with the competent authority.
- Finding a suitable offer: we discuss roles in light of your skills, experience and eligibility; the employer confirms availability.
- Accommodation: we help clarify available accommodation and its terms; contracts, costs and availability require separate checks.
- Ongoing support: help with agreed practical living and work matters after arrival in Germany.
What agricultural work can offer
Contractual income
- Assess guaranteed hours and pay, contract duration and expenses. Seasonal work does not guarantee year-round income.
Insurance and social protection
- Insurance obligations depend on the employment arrangement and individual circumstances. Clarify health coverage, registration and contributions before starting; seasonal work may involve special rules.
Skills and experience
- The work can provide practical experience useful for further development in agriculture.
Experiencing life in Germany
- Contact with colleagues and local residents helps you learn about everyday life, culture and working practices.
