Student visa / visa for studying

Main requirements
- Admission letter (Zulassung): official confirmation of admission to your chosen higher education institution in Germany is required.
- Proof of funding: you must demonstrate that you can cover living and study costs through sufficient funds or an accepted financial guarantee.
- Language proficiency: requirements depend on the programme and its teaching language. B2 is often required; the institution may specify a higher level and a particular exam. Check the English requirements for English-taught programmes.
- Required documents: passport, photograph, motivation letter, translated and certified copies of diplomas or school-leaving certificates, health insurance and other documents on the embassy's checklist.
