Working in Germany in 2026 can be a realistic goal with suitable qualifications, an employer’s offer and a lawful immigration route. An ageing population and demand for specialists create opportunities, but demand varies by occupation and region. For citizens of Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries, preparation starts with checking qualifications, language requirements and the appropriate visa route.
This article covers occupations, visa options, language requirements, budgeting and the legal framework for employment in 2026.

Demand for workers in Germany
When assessing opportunities, distinguish between shortages in a particular occupation and the total number of vacancies. Check current data for your chosen field. Relevant factors include:
- Population ageing and the retirement of the baby-boom generation
- Technological change and industrial restructuring
- Demand for qualified healthcare and care workers
- Regional differences in construction, logistics and services
Immigration rules offer several routes for international professionals. These do not remove checks on qualifications, contract conditions and the requirements of the specific residence title.
Occupations to explore
The following areas may suit your experience. A vacancy does not automatically establish immigration eligibility:
1. Healthcare and care
- Qualified nurse (Pflegefachkraft)
- Elderly care (Altenpflege)
- Medical assistant (MFA)
2. Technical and industrial occupations
- Electrician
- Welder
- Mechanic
- CNC machine operator
3. Construction
- Concrete worker
- Plumber
- Tiler
- Interior finishing tradesperson
4. Logistics and transport
- Category CE truck driver — subject to licensing and professional qualification checks
- Warehouse worker — immigration eligibility must be checked separately
- Forklift operator — with the required authorisation and instruction
5. IT and engineering
- Software developers
- System administrators
- Engineers
Employment visa and residence options in 2026
1. Qualified professionals (Sections 18a and 18b AufenthG)
- Recognised vocational qualifications or a qualifying university degree
- No general A2–B1 requirement; language may be required by the profession, licensing authority or employer
- A specific offer of qualified employment; further conditions are assessed individually
2. EU Blue Card (Section 18g AufenthG)
- Suitable qualifications and salary: normally at least €50,700 gross annually in 2026, or €45,934.20 for eligible reduced-threshold categories subject to further conditions
- Some IT specialists can qualify through documented professional experience; the Blue Card has no general language prerequisite
- Family reunification is possible subject to the relevant conditions
3. Opportunity Card for job searching
There are two main routes: a professional qualification recognised in Germany, or the points system with its basic eligibility requirements. Both require funding for the stay.
- For the points route: German A1 or English B2; the recognised-qualification route has no separate minimum language requirement for the card
- Job searching in Germany; the financial benchmark for 2026 is €1,091 net per month
- The points route requires at least six points in addition to basic eligibility; factors include experience, age and languages
4. Vocational training (Ausbildung, Section 16a AufenthG)
- There is no general 18–35 age limit for starting vocational training; the under-35 rule concerns the separate training-place search route
- The visa normally requires German B1 unless language ability has been assessed by the institution or a preparatory course is provided
- Dual training combines practical work, classroom learning and contractual remuneration; sufficient funding is checked separately
German language requirements
German helps with job searching and settling in. However, the levels below are not a universal visa checklist for all applicants:
- Support roles: language depends on the employer; A2 alone does not create eligibility for a work visa
- Qualified nursing: normally B2 for recognition; service-sector requirements depend on the role
- Doctors: normally general German B2 and medical German C1; education requirements depend on profession and state
Plan language learning around your occupation and longer-term goals. Requirements for recognition, employment and permanent residence may differ.
Money and employment rights
- The general statutory minimum wage has been €13.90 gross per hour since 1 January 2026. Statutory exceptions apply, and some sectors have higher minimum rates. Vocational training pay is regulated separately.
- Suitable health insurance is necessary; check the start date and coverage after arrival
- In regular employment, the employer withholds payroll taxes and social contributions; check your payslip and any personal obligations
Employment law also protects foreign workers. Nationality does not remove entitlement to the applicable minimum pay, leave and safe working conditions.
Opportunities from moving for work
- A large labour market with varied industries and regions
- Contractual pay and a social insurance system
- Possible family reunification when the conditions are met
- Potential eligibility for a settlement permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis) under the relevant route
- Potential to apply for citizenship later if current conditions are met; employment does not grant it automatically
What to do before applying
- Verify the employer, address, contact details and offer conditions
- Prepare documents using the official checklist, independently or with a trusted professional
- Start learning the language early
- Read insurance terms and the employment contract carefully: gross pay, hours, leave, probation and deductions
Your next step
Moving to Germany for work takes preparation. Start with your occupation, evidence of qualifications and a genuine employer’s offer. Then check the visa category, language, insurance and budget. This sequence helps identify opportunities and missing documents before you apply.
The Alman Visum team can review your starting position and help plan your preparation. The competent authority decides on the visa, and the employer decides on hiring.
