Phrases such as “international team”, “great opportunities” or “career of the future” are not enough to decide. You need to know which occupation you will learn, where and on what terms. Reading an advert systematically helps identify unsuitable or unclear offers before applying.
These steps are for candidates seeking a vocational training place. They do not remotely authenticate a particular advert. Compare each offer with the company’s or training provider’s official channels. Do not fill gaps with best-case assumptions.
Record the full occupation title
First find the exact Ausbildung title and start date. “Technical training” or “Ausbildung in a hotel” may describe several occupations. Establish the final qualification and how the programme is organised.
To compare the title with official occupational information, use the BIBB section on occupations and training regulations. Check the current title and relevant training regulations. Marketing wording may differ from the official occupation name.
Do not confuse a short language course, a job preparation programme and full vocational training: their aims and outcomes differ. If the contract or description is unclear, ask in writing which certificate will be awarded.
Who provides the training and practical placement?
Does the advert give the company’s legal name, address and official application channel? If an intermediary posted it, identify the actual training provider. Know who your contract is with and who is responsible for daily training.
The workplace and Berufsschule may be at different addresses. A city name alone does not determine commuting, housing or schedules. If training takes place at several sites, ask how much time is spent at each.
“Help finding accommodation” is not the same as free housing already arranged. Check what help involves, who pays and when a definite address will be available. Record organisational promises alongside training terms.
Separate required and desirable criteria
Read the required level of school qualifications, language, subject knowledge and other skills. Erforderlich means required; wünschenswert means desirable. Understand the whole sentence rather than isolating one word.
| Advert section | Question for the candidate to check |
|---|---|
| Schulabschluss — school qualification | Which school certificate and verification are needed? |
| Sprachkenntnisse — language skills | Which level, evidence or interview? |
| Aufgaben — duties | What will the training teach? |
| Ausbildungsbeginn — start date | Is the date fixed, and how is a late start handled? |
| Vergütung — training pay | For which training year, and is it gross? |
| Bewerbung — application | Which channel, attachments and deadline? |
Do not claim requirements you do not meet in your CV. Missing a desirable quality may still leave room to apply, but mandatory documents or permissions cannot be ignored. Ask one precise question about an unclear condition.
Understanding pay: year, components and costs
If training pay is stated, establish which training year it covers. Do not confuse first-year and later-year figures. Record gross pay, conditional bonuses and expense reimbursements separately.
Check housing, transport, work clothing and learning materials separately. “Many benefits” is not a measurable budget. Establish each benefit’s actual value to you, payment conditions and availability.
Do not base your budget solely on the maximum advertised pay. Visa funding requirements and everyday living costs need separate checks. One figure does not automatically satisfy both.
Clarify applications from abroad
A German-language advert does not mean applications from abroad are excluded. Nor does “international” prove that visa or relocation support is included. Tell the organisation you currently live in Uzbekistan and ask what documents it expects.
If passport or other personal documents are requested, check the purpose and channel. A demand for bank passwords, SMS codes or urgent payment to a personal account is not a normal part of an application.
Distinguish a written training offer from permission to enter Germany. An initial positive response does not mean all other documents are ready. Be open about this uncertainty when agreeing dates.
Illustrative example: attractive offer, unclear schedule
Suppose a candidate finds an Ausbildung advert in one city. Pay is listed, but the Berufsschule location and housing cost are missing. Knowing someone in that city, the candidate assumes commuting is sorted. This is a fictional offer.
On checking, the candidate learns that the school may be elsewhere and requests its exact address and schedule. They then revise housing and commuting plans. Even with unchanged pay, actual costs and travel time may differ.
Do not assess an advert solely by pay and city. Missing information does not prove an offer is bad, but remains an unanswered question for your decision.
Final application preparation checklist
Save the advert link, viewing date, full occupation title and reference number. Build a requirements match table, then tailor your CV and cover letter to the tasks. Check for leftover company names or text about another occupation.
If the specified channel is a portal, do not substitute a general email. Prepare the requested files in the correct format with clear names. Keep submission confirmation: a saved draft is not a submitted application.
To broaden your search sources, consult the Federal Employment Agency’s guide to finding a training place. Our Ausbildung overview provides general context, while the specific advert and current official requirements are needed for the final check.
Frequently asked questions
Should I skip an advert with no pay figure?
It is not an automatic reason to reject an offer. Clarify pay and conditions in writing. Obtain clear budget figures before spending on documents or travel.
Must I meet every desirable criterion?
Separate preferences from mandatory conditions. Be honest when an important condition is missing. You can describe your learning plan instead of inventing a skill, but this does not automatically waive the requirement.
Should I rush if the start date is near?
Prepare promptly, but do not skip checks. Explain that you are arriving from abroad and state the actual document status. Do not guarantee arrival on time before a visa decision.
How do I verify an intermediary’s advert?
Identify the actual training provider, official channel and contract party. Distinguish services from other training costs. Candidates must not be charged for the training placement itself; check additional services separately. Do not rely only on a logo or messenger conversation.
