The experience section of a German CV should show three things: what you did, under what conditions and what you bring to the new role. “Responsible and hardworking” does not answer those questions. A specific description of an ordinary task provides a verifiable basis for an interview.

This guide is for applicants with experience in Uzbekistan preparing applications to Germany. The German sentences below are learning examples: adapt them only to your actual experience. A CV does not guarantee employment, qualification recognition or work permission.

Start by listing your actual experience

Before translating, review past contracts, employment evidence and your own notes. For each role, record start and end months, company, city, title and actual duties. Flag missing details for checking rather than guessing dates.

Reconstruct a normal working day: what happened at the start of a shift, which tools or software did you use, who checked the work and who received problem reports? These questions produce more useful detail than “worked in a warehouse”.

You do not need confidential reports, client names or internal employer data. Evidence here means being able to explain and, when necessary, support your account, not attaching every document you have.

In which order should jobs appear?

Europass CV guidance recommends listing the most recent experience first and tailoring the CV to the role. Use a consistent structure: dates, role, organisation and duties. Put the most relevant duties first.

For a warehouse vacancy, order picking may matter more than customer calls; for sales, the reverse may apply. This is not changing your history but presenting real information in a useful order.

Separate periods if your role changed within a company. Do not count all years as management experience if you managed only for part of that time. Explain overlapping part-time or project roles: overlapping dates are not necessarily wrong, but unexplained contradictions are a problem.

Three parts of a strong description

Check each point: what did you do, with which tool or process, and how far did your responsibility extend? Add results if reliably measured. Do not invent percentages for unmeasured achievements.

General statementMore specific wordingWhat can be checked
Worked in a warehousePicked goods from order lists and prepared them for dispatchWhich orders and process?
Computer literateRecorded incoming and outgoing goods in ExcelWhich operations did you perform independently?
Managed a teamAllocated shift tasks and monitored completionDid you actually have that authority?
Worked with customersClarified order details by telephoneIn which language and about what?

“Performed independently”, “assisted” and “observed” describe different experience. A supervised placement task should not be presented as independent specialist responsibility. Accurate boundaries help at interview too.

Learning example: warehouse experience in German

This is an illustrative scenario, not a customer story. The applicant helped receive goods, picked orders and reported damaged packaging. They did not operate a forklift, so that skill is not included.

The first point describes picking from lists; the second covers packing and labelling. The third says the applicant noticed and reported a problem, not that they assessed damage professionally. Unterstützt in the final point clearly identifies an assisting role.

Compare the example with the vacancy. If it requires scanner experience but you used paper lists, do not add scanner skills. You can express willingness to learn, but willingness is not experience.

Do not confuse a translated job title with qualification recognition

Choose the German job title based on actual duties. Do not turn a support role into a specialist professional title to sound impressive. Keep the original title with a brief explanation in brackets if necessary.

Be particularly careful with regulated professions. A German title in your CV does not mean the qualification is recognised. State the exact status: application submitted or decision received, including its actual outcome. Do not claim a process is underway if it has not started.

Select qualification and experience attachments according to the vacancy instructions. The official application guide advises checking the advert for the required format and attachments. One huge file containing everything does not automatically strengthen an application.

How should you explain gaps or limited experience?

Do not extend job dates to hide a gap. Briefly and truthfully mention language study, family care, training or job searching where applicable. You do not need to disclose every detail of your private life.

With limited experience, list placements, study projects or volunteering under clear labels. Do not present them as permanent paid jobs. Describe your own contribution rather than claiming the whole group’s result.

When changing sectors, identify transferable skills such as accurate recordkeeping or checking order details. These can help, but do not replace specialist knowledge or authorisation.

Review before sending

Read each point aloud and explain its meaning in your own language. Simplify sentences you cannot explain. Open the CV on a phone and computer, checking dates, headings, contact details and whether text can be selected and copied from the PDF.

Give the file a clear name, for example CV_Firstname_Lastname.pdf. Follow any different format requested by the employer. Record which version you sent for each vacancy so you can prepare for the interview using the same information.

Frequently asked questions

Does every bullet need a number?

No. Numbers help when they reliably explain workload. Invented order counts or efficiency percentages undermine credibility. Specific tasks, tools and responsibilities are already meaningful evidence.

Is Europass mandatory?

Do not assume every employer requires it. Read the advert and application portal first. A template helps organise information, but you must check relevance to the vacancy.

Can AI help describe my experience?

It can help with language and structure. Supply only real duties, handle confidential documents carefully and verify every claim. Software or management responsibilities added by a model do not become your experience.

Must I describe every past job in detail?

No. Expand the most relevant experience and keep other periods concise without distorting your history. Next, use our job-search platform guide to select suitable vacancies and compare your CV with their actual requirements.
